9,000 NH residents enroll for health insurance in November under Affordable Care Act

The Associated Press

CONCORD (AP) — Federal officials say more than 9,000 New Hampshire residents enrolled in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act during the first month of the latest enrollment period.

Enrollment opened Nov. 1 and will continue through January 31, 2016. Those who do not have health insurance in 2016 will face penalties.

The Department of Health and Human Services says 9,413 people in New Hampshire signed up in November.

This year, consumers can choose from among five companies. The number of plans for individuals increased from 42 to 43, while small business owners have seen their options increase from 18 plans to 30. Several companies also are offering dental coverage for both individuals and small businesses.
