88-year-old Manchester woman attacked by neighborhood dog

MANCHESTER - Nellie Borun, 88 years old old of Manchester, is still healing after being attacked by a dog Sunday in the 300 block of Norman Street. She was on a stroll through her neighborhood when it happened.

Her son, Mark Borun said, "Apparently mom was in front of them. The boxer broke its grip on the leash from the little girl, or whatever. It ran up and bit my mom."

Neighbors say they often see Borun walking through the neighborhood. Luckily on Sunday, Glen Fritzsche was standing outside by his garage when Borun was attacked.

Fritzsche said, "As soon as the woman got to that white truck she got mauled by the dog. I immediately ran to her rescue, pulled her off the dog and made sure she was ok."

The dog bit Bourn on her arm and foot.

Fritzsche said, "The woman kept walking, pretty much, with the little girl. I told her to come back so she would, you know, give us more info, but there was no return. My wife and I went around the neighborhood looking to see if we could locate the dog perhaps and get more info, but there was no sign."

Without the dog or owner there was no way to know if Bourn would have to undergo painful rabies shots. But after seeing the story on the news the dog's owner finally came forward.

Nellie Borun said, "So the mother told me he didn't have the rabies. Borun's son agreed.
"Now we are in a situation where we do not have to bring mom to the hospital for a series of rabies shots. That was our biggest concern," said Mark Borun.

Borun is expected to make a full recovery, and the family says they won't press any charges.
