SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – An eight-year-old girl who lost her family in a fire that was caused by arson is only asking for one gift this holiday season – Christmas cards from around the world.
In 2013, Safyre Terry, who was five-years-old at the time, lost her father and three siblings in a house fire that was intentionally set.
Safyre survived because her father was on top of her and blocked her from the flames. The young girl still suffered severe burns and lost her right hand and left foot.
She now lives with her aunt, Liz Dodler.
Dodler posted Safyre’s wish on her Facebook page and shared a picture of Safyre next to a tree they bought to hang all the cards on.
If you would like to read more about Safyre or donate to her fundraiser, visit the YouCaring website.
