72% success rate for NH moose hunters
CONCORD - According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department 91 of 127 hunters got their game, a 72% success rate, during the 2014 moose hunt. The moose hunting season lasts just 9 days. In total, 57 bulls and 34 cows were taken.
Fish and Game says that over 10,000 permits were requested in 2014, but just 127 were chosen in the moose lottery.
In 2013, hunters took 180 moose in the state, but had a success rate of 64% statewide as 275 permits were issued. Less permits were issued this year due to moose population decreasing, thought to be because of ticks. Experts say thousands of ticks can be found on a moose, literally bleeding the animal to death.
