70-year-old hiker injured on Mount Washington

THOMPSON - A 70-year-old hiker from Tamsworth fell on the Jewell Trail near the summit of Mount Clay on Friday afternoon and hit his head.

Peter Crane was assisted first by other hikers to stop the bleeding and then treated by a wilderness EMT who hiked down from the summit observatory. Crane was able to hike roughly a mile up to the summit of Mount Washington where he could be taken down the auto road.

He was subsequently taken by Gorham ambulance to Androscogging Valley Hospital in Berlin for treatment of his injuries, according to conservation officers with the Fish and Game Department.
