6 ducklings die after flock tries to cross Everett Turnpike in Merrimack

MERRIMACK - Six ducklings were killed when a flock tried to cross the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Merrimack near Exit 10 on Friday around noon.

Bedford police arrived to find that Don Wylks, a Manchester man, had been able to rescue four ducklings out of the flock of ten. Wylks had been able to corral the surviving ducklings before they crossed.

The surviving ducklings were taken to Maria Colby, a wildlife rehabilitation expert of Wings of the Dawn Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Henniker.

Troopers reminded motorists not to stop on the highway for animal life, but rather call authorities who can remove the block safely.
