4th-graders dissed by NH lawmakers name White House red-tailed hawk 'Lincoln'

Well they got to name something.

The 4th-graders at Lincoln Akerman School were invited by President Obama to name a red-tailed hawk that took residence near White House.

And now we know the (sneaky cool) name.

It's Lincoln. After the 16th president?

Yes, and also as a side plug for for their school name.

This class is the same class that proposed a bill at the N.H. Statehouse naming the red-tailed hawk the state raptor - only to have the bill shot down in a major way.

One representative even compared the hawk to abortion while the kids were in the viewing gallery.

The story got national attention from major news outlets, was trending on Facebook and even got the attention of celebrities - including this hilarious piece by John Oliver.

The students, of course, forgave the lawmakers for the whole debacle.

Lincoln the hawk hasn't wasted any time. He's already on Twitter.

And he announced his arrival to the world in a big way.

Congrats guys, on a super cool hawk name.
