4 simple tips to stay safe while driving in the NH snow this season

CONCORD - Last year, Triple A came to the rescue of over 175,000 members in Northern New England during the winter months.

And in most cases, the situation could have been avoided by being better prepared for the conditions and modifying driving behavior.

With winter weather right around the corner, here are some tips on how to arrive at your destination safely without issues.

The tips

- Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids.

- Increase the distance between you and the car ahead of you. The normal dry pavement following distance is three to found seconds, but should be increased to eight to ten seconds.

- Don't power up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads may only result in spinning your wheels.

- And of course, if you don't have to go out in the bad weather, stay home and stay safe!
