35th annual Prouty charity bike ride to raise money for cancer kicks off this weekend

MANCHESTER — This weekend marks the beginning of the 35th annual Prouty Ultimate Charity bike ride.

The ride is held in memory of Audrey Prouty, a woman who passed away after her nine-year battle against ovarian cancer in the 1980s.

She inspired many - including four nurses who created the ride - which begins in Manchester and ends in Hanover.

The first event raised a mere $4,000 dollars in 1982, but last year's event raised over $3.3 million to fund cancer research and support patients.

Some riders are survivors, and others ride in memory of those they love. Thousands of bikers are expected participate this weekend.
