3-vehicle crash in Salem leaves woman dead, man with life-threatening injuries


SALEM — A 69-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene after a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 111 and Ermer Road at 4:39 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Officers found three vehicles, and occupants who had suffered life-threatening injuries. Evidence showed a 2010 Honda Accord driven by a 45-year-old man had turned westbound onto Route 111, hitting a 2015 Kia Optima also traveling westbound. The Kia was pushed into an eastbound lane into 111 where it struck a 1993 Toyota Camry that was traveling eastbound. The two occupants of the Toyota were were seriously injured.

The driver of the Toyota, a 58-year-old man, was taken to the hospital via MedFlight to Beth-Israel Hospital.

The driver of the Honda was treated and released on the scene for minor injuries. Police do not plan to release name until next of kin have been notified.

It has not been determined if charges will be filed as a result of the crash.

Route 111 will be closed from Zachary’s Crossing to Island Pond Rd. in Derry for an undetermined amount of time.
