3 missing huskies shot and killed after allegedly attacking pigs

MERRIMACK - Three Siberian Huskies that were missing after escaping their Merrimack home, were shot and killed by a homeowner who said the dogs killed 2 of his piglets.

The dogs went missing Sept. 29 from owner Mike Dillon's home on Pearson Road. Despite a social media blitz, the dogs were not located.

According to police, they received an anonymous tip that a man had shot the dogs.

The man admitted to police he killed the dogs to stop them from attacking his piglets and said he thought the dogs were wolves.

Police do not expect to file charges. According to NH Law Chapter 466 Section 28, the homeowner was within his legal rights to kill the dogs. It states, "Any person may kill a dog that suddenly assaults the person while such person is peaceably walking or riding without the enclosure of its owner or keeper; and any person may kill a dog that is found out of the enclosure or immediate care of its owner or keeper worrying, wounding, or killing sheep, lambs, fowl, or other domestic animals."

According to the Union Leader, the name of the man who shot the dogs is expected to be released once the final police report is finished.
