The Associated Press

PELHAM - A school bus carrying 45 young people crashed into a car on Wednesday, injuring 3 children.

Pelham police said the bus's driver - Veronica Mellor, 41 of Nashua - caused the crash after she rear-ended a Toyota Solara while following it too closely at about 2:40 p.m. The Toyota was trying to make a left turn when it was hit.

Three children were treated at the scene with minor injuries, and Mellor was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Nashua with minor injuries. The Toyota's driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police said the front of the bus and the back of the Toyota were heavily damaged. Both had to be towed from the scene.

Camp counselors and Pelham Parks and Recreation staff assisted emergency crews throughout the investigation. Children were released to their parents and guardians after.

Officers were on scene for nearly two hours. Mammoth Road traffic was severely hindered the entire time.
