3 Christmas Day stabbing victims from Maine taken to Rochester hospital

The Associated Press

LEBANON, Maine - Maine State Police say a 44-year-old Vermont man drove to Maine Christmas night and stabbed three members of the same family.

Alton Britch of Wheelock, Vermont, was charged with aggravated assault after the attack. Police say they don't know why he assaulted the family. WCSH-TV reports he hadn't seen the family in two years.

Police say he drove to his cousin's home in Lebanon and stabbed her husband, daughter and 18-year-old grandson. The family members fought back, hitting Britch with a frying pan and eventually pinning him to the ground.

The three victims were taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H. with non-life-threatening injuries.

Britch was being held at the York County Jail on $100,000 bail. It could not immediately be learned if he had a lawyer.
