3 arrested in robbery at Manchester homeless camp
MANCHESTER - A homeless man was the victim of a robbery Saturday while sleeping inside his temporary shelter at homeless encampment off Allard Drive.
Alan Martin, 41, reported to police he was sleeping in his tent when a group of individuals accosted him. He said two men and one woman threatened him and forced him out of the tent. One of the men, later identified as March Hall, 31, of Manchester, allegedly threatened to kill Martin if he contacted police. Hall allegedly continued making threats while removing items from Martin's tent.
Hall and his friends left shortly after he allegedly removed a Nike backpack containing Martin’s cell phone and assorted items. Police located the three subjects in front of the Amory Street Domino’s several minutes after the reported robbery. Hall was in possession of the stolen Nike bag and cell phone.
Hall was charged with robbery and placed on a 72-hour hold for a probation/parole violation. He was arraigned Monday. Both Edward Mello, 45, and Chandel Vandenburg, 29, both of Manchester, were charged with criminal liability to robbery.
Mello was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester May 5. Vandenburg was released on $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester May 6.
