3-alarm fire destroys Portsmouth home

PORTSMOUTH - A three-alarm fire destroyed a home on Maplewood Avenue Saturday night.

The fire broke out at approximately 11:30 p.m. in a single-family home. Firefighters found heavy fire at the rear of the house, extending from the first to second floor.

The fire brought in mutual aid from Rye, Dover, Exeter, Hampton, Pease, Greenland, New Castle, and North Hampton, as well as firefighters from Kittery and York, Maine.

One firefighter was slightly injured, but was not taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and is still under investigation.
