2nd annual James W. Foley 5K (and virtual 5K) scheduled for October
ROCHESTER — A race honoring a slain N.H. journalist that was killed in 2014 by the Islamic State Militant group while working in Syria will be held for a second year.
The second annual James W. Foley Foundation 5K will be held on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Rochester Fairgrounds, according to Foster's Daily Democrat.
If you can't make it to the race, you can still participate in the virtual 5K from anywhere in the world.
To do so, visit FoleyRun.org. You will be sent T-shirts to wear during the virtual race to support the event.
All funds collected by the James W. Foley Foundation benefit things Foley was passionate about, including support for American hostages, press freedom, the safety of conflict journalists and the empowerment of disadvantaged youth.
Foley was working as a freelance journalist covering the Syrian civil war when he was kidnapped on Thanksgiving in 2012. He was held captive for almost two years until he was beheaded on Aug. 19, 2014.
