2 NH teens fight off home intruder, police catch suspect close to Derry home

DERRY — Police responded to a residence on Pond Road in Derry after a report of an attempted burglary on Oct. 14.

Two teen brothers called in the report of a man at their front door who was attempting to kick it in. The man allegedly injured himself while trying to kick the door and fell down. At that time, the older of the two brothers opened the door and began yelling at the intruder, according to police.

The suspect attempted to run away but fell down close by due to his injury.

Police found David McCumber, 31, close by and identified him as the suspect. McCumber was found with items on him that led police to believe he robbed another home in the same neighborhood. They found a house nearby that been broken into, and no one was home.

McCumber was charged with burglary, attempted burglary, and three counts of felonious theft on account of three different stolen firearms found on him when he was arrested.
