2 NH men arrested after stealing nearly $2,000 worth of goods from grocery store
LEBANON — Two men who attempted to shoplift nearly $2,000 worth of goods from a Lebanon Price Chopper on Tuesday were arrested shortly after fleeing, police said.
Philip Canale, 50, and Anthony Hutchinson, 29, of Lebanon, were seen placing multiple items into a shopping cart before leaving the Price Chopper on Plainfield Road in West Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
A loss-prevention officer at the store said the two men left without paying. He tried to stop the men outside of the store and upon identifying himself, Canale and Hutchinson abandoned the cart and fled on foot, police said.
The $1,949.81 of stolen items were recovered and a description of the men was provided to Lebanon police who found the two men driving along Plainfield Road a short time later.
Canale and Hutchinson were taken into custody and charged with felony theft.
Hutchinson was arraigned on Wednesday and held on $7,500 cash bail.
Canale was also arraigned on Wednesday and released on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear next in Grafton County Superior Court on Aug. 21.
