CORNISH — Authorities say two adults and a child were injured at a ride at the Cornish Fair on Friday night.
A 28-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter fell out of one of the cars on the Zipper ride, officials said. The victims haven't yet been identified.
Witnesses told investigators with the state fire marshal's office that the fall was about 8 to 10 feet.
One of them fell onto a 23-year-old ride operator working for Fanelli Amusement Co., but no one was seriously injured.
"Everyone was concerned," said Police Chief Doug Hackett. "Obviously, the only thing anybody was worried about was the safety and condition of the people."
The preliminary investigation and inspection of the amusement ride appears to indicate mechanical issues occurred, causing the ride to move during the loading of the ride car before the door had latched. All injured parties were treated and released from local hospitals.
The ride was inspected on Thursday and had no issues, Hackett said.
Following Friday night's incident, Tramway and amusement ride safety inspectors returned to the Cornish Fair on Saturday morning to continue new inspections of the ride to determine what caused the issues.
Stacy Dubois, district chief for the Office of the State Fire Marshal, said amusement park rides do have to go through a permitting and inspection process but she was not immediately aware whether those rules had or hadn't been followed.
The ride remained closed on Saturday afternoon.
The incident comes just over two weeks after a circus tent collapsed in Lancaster. The collapse led to widespread questions and investigations about amusement park safety after two people were killed.
