2 fall from boat, hit by motor when boat fails to stop on Crescent Lake

WOLFEBORO - Two people from Connecticut were injured Saturday when they fell out of a boat on Crescent Lake and the boat swung around and hit them.

The state police Marine Patrol division said three people were in a 14-foot aluminum boat when a larger boat created a wake that knocked them into the water. The engine shut-off lanyard was not connected to anyone in the boat so it continued to run and swung around, with the motor hitting one woman on the right leg and another woman on the left hip.

Injured were Christine and Erin Curry of Glastonbury, Conn., who were taken to Huggins Hospital for treatment. The third person in the boat, Patrick Curry, was able to reach into the boat and pull the shut off lanyard to stop the motor, Marine Patrol officers said.

Officials are urging all boat operators to wear the engine shut-off lanyards when they are on the water.
