SALEM - Two dogs were rescued along Interstate 93, and one was stuck 50 feet in a culvert.

At around 2:30 on Saturday, Salem firefighters got a call of a dog near I-93 in the vicinity of a pond, Captain Tim Kenny was able to recover the dog and returned it to the address on the dogs’ tags.

When he brought the dog home, the owners asked if the second dog that went missing was found as well. Captain Kenny went back to the initial location the first dog was found. “I had the owner with me, and he called out the dogs’ name, we heard something and he called out the name again” said Kenny.

He continued to say that the second dog was located in the basin of a culvert. “We looked about 50 to 60 feet down and he was caught up in a drain catch basin”. Kenny said the dog could not get back up—so they called out heavy recuse and a tower truck.

Fire Fighter Nick Michaud crawled down and got the dog safely out, both dogs were unharmed. “With everything that’s been going on with the drug crisis, this is just a feel good story and a very happy ending” says Kenny.
