BALTIMORE — Maryland authorities say two people are dead after a 50-mile, high-speed police pursuit of a pickup truck reported stolen in New Hampshire.

Officials announced Monday that Maryland Transportation Authority Police tried to stop a Chevrolet Silverado on Sunday morning on Interstate 95 just north of the Fort McHenry Tunnel in the Baltimore area. Authorities say the Laconia, N.H., police department reported the truck stolen Friday.

The driver failed to stop, leading police on a pursuit for about 50 miles into northeastern Maryland.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the Chevrolet, 28-year-old Stephen Reinholz, of Laconia, lost control at Exit 109, sending the truck into a guard rail and down an embankment.

Officials say Reinholz and a passenger, 28-year-old Kaili Pierce, of Concord, N.H., died at the scene.

First State Update reported that the accident caused multiple lane closures on the interstate and slowed traffic for most of the day.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
