HANOVER — Two Dartmouth College students who were expelled after taking responsibility for a fire inside a dormitory have created a petition asking the school to reverse this decision.
Sebastian Lim and Daniel Ro admitted to causing the fire at Morton Hall, which displaced about 70 students. New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office said an unattended hibachi-style grill sparked a blaze at the college.
Lim and Ro created a petition stating that the college had expelled them on the grounds that they pose a threat to the community. The two admit that they made a mistake that could have potentially injured people, but do not believe that they pose a threat.
In the petition both students said that they want to "publicly apologize" for their actions.
"We know that besides this, we disrupted and negatively affected several of your lives, and for that we are also truly sorry. We will never do anything to put our fellow peers at risk again," wrote Lim and Ro.
They are asking people to sign the petition in order to give them a second chance.
"If you believe that this was truly an honest mistake and that we do not pose a threat to the community, please take one minute of your day to sign this petition and give us a second chance. However, if you find that your right to have the safety and security on this campus has been violated then we are truly sorry and will fully accept the consequences of our actions."
So far the petition has 1,600 supporters with a goal of 2,000.
