2 arrested at NH motel after police respond to call of drunk man on ground
HOOKSETT — A call to check on an intoxicated man lying on the ground ended with two people being arrested at a local motel.
Police responded to the Firebird Motel at 8:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of an intoxicated male lying on the ground near a fence.
While at the motel, officers noticed a man outside one of the rooms "acting strange" and appearing to be under the influence of drugs, police said.
The man fled into his room and dumped a substance on the ground that officer believed to be cocaine, police said.
Officers identified the man as Leroy Kear, 30, of Manchester. Kear had an outstanding arrest warrant to failure to appear on a robbery charge.
Police also identified a female in the same room as Kear as Heather Payne, 39, of Manchester.
Police said Kear and Payne refused to come out of the room and cooperate with officers. They obtained a search warrant and took the pair into custody.
Kear is charged with electronic bench warrant for failure to appear for robbery, felon in possession of a deadly weapon as a knife was located in his possession, resisting arrest, and possession of a narcotic drug.
Payne was charged with obstructing government administration and resisting arrest and detention.
While in booking, Kear refused to cooperate with officers and Payne refused bail. Both were taken to the Merrimack County House of Corrections and are scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
