2 area schools lend hand to ITT students to find new program of study

NASHUA — Two area schools have offered to assist former ITT students in finding a new program of study, with Maverick Technical Institute in Nashua extending an invitation to Daniel Webster College students, as well.

Middlesex Community College, with campuses in Lowell and Bedford, Mass., will host a walk-in registration and consultation session from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at the Lowell Campus Cowan Center, 33 Kearney Square.

The event is open to the public, and no appointment is needed.

Daniel Webster College (DWC) remains open after its parent company - the for-profit college chain, ITT Educational Services - shut down its campuses days after the U.S. Department of Education banned it from enrolling new students who use federal financial aid.

ITT Educational Services says it was forced to take the action after the U.S. Department of Education issued sanctions on Aug. 25 after problems with meeting accreditation standards.

ITT/ESI purchased DWC in 2009, and changed its status from nonprofit to for-profit.
