Debra Vasapolli, director of Community Relations, said staff in the inpatient OR started experiencing for symptoms of dizziness, nausea and vomiting around 8:30 a.m.

The initial number of staff affected had been 6 people but as that number increase, the hospital closed off the OR Department and moved people out of that department. Officials also decided to close the Emergency Department as well.

Vasapolli said it's unknown whether any surgeries had been in progress at the time and had to be stopped. No patients at the hospital had any similar symptoms, she said.

As of 1:30 p.m., the OR and Emergency Departments remained close as emergency crews still tried to find the source of the problem.

Vasapolli said all affected staff members have either been released or transferred to other hospitals.

She said the situation is winding down and all other areas of the hospital remain open as they have not been affected.
