The Associated Press

WESTFORD, Mass. (AP) - A 13-year-old Massachusetts boy has died in a skiing accident northwest of Boston.

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office says Rajiv Paluri of Westford was skiing Saturday afternoon with friends at Nashoba Valley Ski Area when he went off the trail and hit a tree. The boy was wearing a helmet at the time.

Authorities say he was taken off the mountain by ski patrol and to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nashoba Valley General Manager Al Fletcher says everyone was "deeply shaken" by the accident and he offered his sympathy to the family.

The accident happened between intermediate and difficult trails.
