12-acre island off Portsmouth sells for a record $6.2 million
PORTSMOUTH — A 12-acre island in Little Harbor has sold for $6.2 million - the largest residential sale in the state this year, broker Janet Sylvester told seacoastonline.
Belle Island, also known as Lady Isle, includes a mile of waterfront property, multiple docks, a four-stall horse barn and a "manor house" that was built in 1900 and renovated in 2008. Sylvester said it was purchased by a "local" buyer, but did not identify the new owner.
According to city assessing records, the property is currently valued at $4 million and was last sold in 1998 to Michael Clark for $2.8 million. The island was previously owned by the Catholic Church which operated the private Lady Isle School for grades K-8 there for 56 years. The island's main home served as the convent for the sisters who taught there.
