11-month-old killed in Maine Turnpike crash

WELLS, Maine - An 11-month old baby was killed in a one-car crash on the Maine Turnpike Monday afternoon, police said.

Reece Degen suffered fatal head injuries in the accident. Police said the infant was in a child safety seat in the back seat and died shortly after arrival at York Hospital.

Police said Alyssa Cray, 22, of Sanford lost control of her car in heavy rain, struck guardrails and then came to a rest along the tree line beside the highway. Cary, along with Degen's mother Brianna Degen, 21, of Sanford, were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with multiple injuries. Also taken to Maine Medical were Cray's two children, 4-month-old Connor Cray and 3-year-old Alexandria Cray, both with minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause.
