PELHAM — A search warrant has led to the seizure of 10 dogs and 8 puppies, due to animal cruelty.
Animal Control Officers (ACOs) from Pelham, Hudson, Windham and Salem executed a search warrant at an address on Jonathon Road following a two week investigation. The search warrant was granted for the purpose of checking the health and welfare of the dogs at that residence.
ACOs entered the home Tuesday at about 9:25 a.m. and smelled a strong odor of ammonia and urine, police said. Dog feces was also located on top of a DVD player on the floor of the living room.
An underweight pitbull was found locked in a bathroom. The interior of the bathroom door had been scratched and torn apart from dogs being left there for an extended period of time, police said.
Two other pitbulls were located in crates in the middle of the kitchen.
A rottweiler mix who had recently given birth to eight puppies was located upstairs, along with dog feces on the carpet.
In the basement, five additional dogs were located along with urine puddles in the basement garage.
There was also one aggressive pitbull located outside in a kennel, police said.
All the dogs were seized as a result of the search warrant. They were all brought to Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Windham to be examined.
Pelham ACO Allison Caprigno believes that there are at least 15 pitbull/pitbull mix dogs that the resident was caring for that are still unaccounted for.
As a result of the investigation and search warrant, police say there will likely be animal cruelty charges brought forth for the owner of the property, Kevin Rocheville.
Anyone with information about the other dogs is asked to contact Caprigno at 603-635-2411 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
