1 pedestrian dies, 1 injured after being hit by van in Claremont
CLAREMONT - Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a van and two pedestrians walking along Charlestown Road on Friday night.
Police say Christa Osgood, 44, of Claremont was dead at the scene and the second pedestrian, Kenneth Lavigne, 45, of Newport was taken to Valley Regional Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and then to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where he was last reported in stable condition.
Police say the driver of the van that hit them, a 2008 GMC Savana, is cooperating with police. The van was traveling north on Charlestown Road near Harmony Lane at the time of the collision, around 8 p.m.
The police investigation closed the road for several hours. Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information about the accident is asked to call Sgt. Brent Wilmot at 542-9538 or Trooper Bryan Plamondon at 223-8677.
