1 dead after drowning in New London

NEW LONDON - Police found a disturbing discovery in a creek that leads to Lake Sunapee following a tip about something suspicious found on a nearby beach.

The body of an apparent drowning victim was pulled out of the King Hill Brook by the New London Fire Dept. around noon on Friday.

Investigators first received a call about an abandoned car that appeared to be stuck in the sand on a private beach at the end of Soo Nipi Park Road.

Police searched the area and found the body shortly after, about 10 feet from shore.

Detectives with the New London Police Dept. responded, in addition to the N.H. Medical Examiner's Office.

The cause of death was determined to be an unattended drowning, according to Chief Edward Andersen.

The incident does not appear to be suspicious.

A connection between the victim and the vehicle found on the beach was unclear.

The victim's name hasn't yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
