1 dead, 2 injured after car crosses center line on Route 3A in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH - One person is dead and two people were seriously injured in a car crash on Route 3A on early Friday afternoon.
State police say the crash took place just south of the intersection with Melvin Road and involved two cars. The drivers of both cars were seriously injured and the passenger in the northbound car was dead at the scene.
Police did not identify the deceased pending notification of family members except to say she was an adult female. The driver of that car, however, was identified as Fred Wheeler, 72, of Hill. He was taken to Speare Memorial Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
The driver of the second car, heading south at the time of the accident, was Sharon Nelson, 72, of Groton. She also was taken to Speare Memorial and later transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Nelson's 2015 Subaru Outback crossed the center of the roadway and into the path of the 1999 Subaru Forester driven by Wheeler. The collision remains under investigation
