1 dead, 1 injured in head-on crash after Jeep crossed I-89 median

CONCORD - One woman died and a second woman was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Interstate 89 around 10 a.m on Wednesday.

State police say one vehicle rolled over and a second caught fire. An investigation revealed a blue Jeep Liberty heading north on I-89 had crossed the center median just south of the Exit 2 off-ramp and hit a blue Ford Focus driven by Lynda Rawnsley, 51, of Hillsborough. Rawnsley was seriously injured and transported to Concord Hospital.

The driver of the Jeep Liberty was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are not releasing her identify to allow time for next of kin to be notified. The reason the Jeep crossed the median remains under investigation.
