Would You Subject Yourself to Getting the Flu for Money?

I don’t know about you, but being sick is just miserable.

The sprints to the bathroom, no appetite, and boxes of tissues; not my idea of fun. Well, if you’re up for it, researchers at St. Louis University are paying volunteers $3,500 and a free stay at local hotel for 12 days with catered meals.

Has to be a catch, right? There is: you have to be willing to be exposed to the flu in order to test a new flu vaccine. And it get’s more interesting. According to the university, “some of the volunteers will either get a vaccine shot or a placebo and then get exposed to the virus through a nasal spray.”

Which means, some will feel better sooner and others will have to deal with it full on! According to reports, "The university spent about $350,000 to convert 24 hotel rooms at the Salus Center into a quarantined medical unit, equipped with reading nooks and game tables for socializing.”

So, you will be battling the flu in complete luxury.

I don’t know about you, but no amount of money or chicken soup is worth dealing with the nasty symptoms of the flu. But, if you’re strong enough, it could be a lucrative deal. What do you say, are you going to apply?
