OPINION: Fair or Foul? Deliberately Staying Out Past Your Kids' Bedtime

A friend of mine told me that when she has a GNO (Girls' Night Out) -- maybe once every 3 to 4 weeks or so -- she purposely stays out until she knows her kids are already in bed so that she can just unwind when she gets home.

She asked me if that makes her a bad mom. While I don't think that makes her a bad mom . . some say that it makes her a SELFISH mom. Why would she WANT to miss putting her kids to bed? Look, my kids go to bed at 9pm. If I'm going out, I'm probably not going to be back by 9.

I asked our listeners on Facebook where they stood on the matter, and here are some of the comments:

She’s not a bad mom or a selfish mom. Everyone needs to check out for a bit. If we can’t take care of ourselves, we can’t take care of others. If she can get out for a night enjoy it and know that the kids are fine!
