Our Travels

Attitash/Nordic Village -This past year in the winter season we went to Nordic Village. Nordic Village is a resort that is 15 minutes from Attitash Mt. While we were there we went skiing and snowboarding. We had tons of fun and the best time ever. Even though we were sore we managed to stay up really late that night. We came home the next day giggling and smiling. I'm sure I will never forget that weekend! by Jenn

Hampshire Hills -Hampshire Hills was a blast. It's a club where there is basketball courts, tennis courts, a lap pool, rock wall and a play room. After hours we get to run the place ALL NIGHT and do as many things we can possibly do. WE go there with all the troops in the town. by Jess

The Retired Nuns -Since Troop 567 were Brownies we have visited the nuns at The Presentation of Mary Convent. We do an Easter egg hunt, a Christmas party, and we play music for them when we go to visit. I think our favorite time to visit them is for the Easter egg hunt. This is because the say lots of funny things like "Hurry up" and "Oh that's nice." We all love going and I think they like it when we come! by Sarah G

Scrapbooking -As our third year in Juniors approached, Mrs. H found herself with a bunch of pictures that she had taken over the years and wanted to do something with them. So we copied most of the pictures and made our own Girl Scout scrapbooks. We did the scrapbooking during a few meetings and a couple of overnights. We used stickers, colored paper, markers, stickers, and our imagination and now all have our own memory book to keep and save to give to our daughters when they join Girl Scouts. This activity reminded us of all the fun things we have done over the years. By Mrs. H

Glaze and Glory -When the troop came to their last year in Juniors they wanted to do a couple more interesting and different badges to finish up the year with crafts and fun stuff. So we decided to do a pottery badge. Along with visiting a man who does pottery in his home and fires it there to we went to Glaze and Glory. Glaze and Glory is a place in Concord that has lots of pottery pieces that you buy and then paint. We had a choice of 10 different small pieces that are little bowls and boxes. Once you are done painting you give your piece to the people who work there and they gloss the paint and fire the piece in the kiln and you pick it up in a week. Once they are done they are beautiful and smooth and glossy. I would love to return to Glaze and Glory and do a larger piece.

Orienteering -When we were Brownies we took a trip to the Audubon Society in Auburn, NH, were we were taught about orienteering. We were taught how to read a compass, how to read a map and how to mark out paces. We were then given a map and a compass and put onto a course where we found ourselves walking all around the trails at the Audubon Center. The very fun course ended with us finding a pot of gold (butterscotch candies)! After that introduction, we then went to a meet in Hollis, NH, which put three girls on a team. Each team was given their instructions and was then left on their own to find all the flags. That was very fun and exciting. Our last experience was a meet on the UNH campus in Durham. This course was a little more challenging and found a couple of teams struggling at times to find a flag or two. But luckily, the whole troop made it out! I really enjoyed orienteering because I love being outside in the woods. I also found this activity to be very positive for the troop as a team building activity.
